The temple of fourteen Gods is located at Old Agartala in Sadar Sub-division of West Tripura district, about 6 km away from the present capital city Agartala. This temple, commonly known as Chaturdas Devta temple, is historically important .As per gathered information; this temple was established by Maharaja Krishna Kishore Manikya in 1770 A.D. Before 1770 A.D., the images of the deities were in two temples at Udaipur, former capital of princely Tripura. Maharaja Krishna Kishore Manikya, being defeated by Shamsher Ghazi, shifted the capital of Tripura from Udaipur to Old Agartala, brought the images of the fourteen gods and established the present temple. The ruins of the old royal palace are still there beside the temple. Inside the temple, images of fourteen gods do not consist of full body, only the images of heads of gods are there.

Every year, special worship of fourteen gods is held associated with a Mela or fair of harmony and cultural synthesis. This special occasion is known as Kharchi Puja, observed during the month of Shraban (July-August) which is very famous in Tripura. Though this is basically a tribal festival, yet people from all caste and creed participate in the occasion. The fair organized is a seven days long affair and the Old Agartala wears a gala-festive look with thousands of people celebrating the occasion. This occasion attracts a number of sadhus as well as tourists from outside the state.

Pilak is situated at a distance of 113 km from Agartala. This place of attraction is at Jolaibari under Santirbazar Sub-Division in South Tripura district. This place is a treasure house of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures. The archeological remains of 8th and 9th Centuries have been found in plenty in this place. There are some temple plaques of terracotta and stone images. Huge stone images of Avlokiteswar of 9th Century A.D. and Narsimha image of 12th Century were discovered here which are presently preserved in the Government Museum at Agartala. The images of Ganesha, Durga and Surya image have been found there. A 10 ft high Surya image, holding a lotus, is also found which is unique in nature. There are terracotta images of kinnars. Two bronze statues of Buddha were discovered in nearby areas. It appears from the images that there was once the rule of the Buddhist kings followed by Hindu rulers in subsequent years. It is expected that there are more hidden treasures in Pilak. Special drive for further excavation has been taken up by the Archaeological Survey of India.

Pilak is very attractive for its scenic beauty. There is a hilly rivulet flows through this place which is known as Pilak chhara. Tourists find the place very attractive for its scenic beauty as well as for its historical importance. Every year, a festival of harmony “Pilak Festival” is held in the month of January, organized by the state government. People from all over the state and outside visit Pilak during the festival.

Only Water-palace in eastern India on the lake Rudrasagar is situated near Melaghar in Sonamura Sub-division of West Tripura district. This picturesque fairy-tale royal palace was the dream castle of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, which was built in 1930 A.D.

It was built by Maharaja as his summer castle, being inspired by the Mughal style of architecture. The palace was built from the idea of famous Jagniwas Palace in Pichola Lake at Udaipur, Rajasthan. This castle, a blend of Hindu-Muslim architecture, took nine long years to be completed. It is a fascinating sight to view the reflection of the palace on the placid water of the lake. The lake covers an area of about 5.3 Sq. km, situated about 55 km south of Agartala. The journey on boat from the bank of the lake to the palace is thrilling and adventurous.

The lake is a home to variety of resident as well as migratory birds.Boating facilities is available here. Boating festival is held every year in Rudrasagar in the month of July-August.The tourists can stay at Sagar Mahal Tourist Lodge and enjoy the view of this wonderful creation of art and architecture.

One of the most important and much venerated attraction of Tripura of the ancient temple of Matabari or Tripurasundari temple located on a hill-top 3 KM from the main town at Udaipur. Matabari (Place of Mother Goddess) is regarded as one of the 51 piths (holy sites) of Hindu pilgrimage. Goddess Tripurasundari is an avatar of the Goddess Parvathi, the consort of Lord Shiva, the principal deity of the state.

A Curious legend surrounds its origins. A king of Tripura Maharaja Dhanya Manikya of the 15th century is said to have had a dream ordering him to establish Tripurasundari at this hill-top temple. But the king knew that it was already dedicated to Lord Vishnu and he knew that he could not obey the signs in the dream, because Lord Vishnu and the consort of Lord Shiva could not share the same abode. But the divine command was repeated to him next night giving in the king did as he was bid.

The Kalyansagar Pond that he built close by is home to tortoises that are deeply revered by the devotees of the temple. This venerable temple is also referred to as the Koorma(tortoise)Pith. The temple is 500 years old. Diwali or Kalipuja is celebrated with great pomp here.
