On the 2nd CII Tripura Pineapple Meet , Sikaria Group setting up Mega Food Park in Tripura.

The 2nd CII Tripura Pineapple Meet was organized by CII today in collaboration with Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Government of Tripura. The event was supported by APEDA, NABARD and the National Horticulture Board, Government of India. In his speech as the Chief Guest, Mr M. Nagaraju, Principal Secretary, Department of Industries and Commerce & Finance. In his speech as the Chief Guest, Mr Nagaraju highlighted that although Tripura has some of the best quality pineapple, the food processing sector has not taken off as expected. Some of the reasons he cited is the lack of warehousing facilities/cold storage  and other logistics facilities needed for processing of pineapple. He called upon the entrepreneurs to set up pineapple processing unit in the State. He mentioned that the pineapple available in the State is “Organic” and expressed the need to “Brand Tripura Pineapple” outside the State. He said that the farmers can form small co-operative societies and start processing pineapple. This would yield good return on investment. He also assured that his department will render all possible support to the entrepreneurs willing to set up processing unit in the State and can take advantage of the State Investment and Incentive Policy. Mr Sunil Kumar, General Manager, NABARD in his speech spoke about the various schemes of NABARD to help small growers and farmers engaged in pineapple cultivation. He also spoke encouraged farmers, NGOs and the unemployed youths to come forward  to set up industrial units in the State. The other speakers included Mr Arindam Chaudhuri, Senior Consultant, APEDA, Dr D. P. Sarkar, Director, Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Government of Tripura, Ms Swapna Debnath, Additional Director, Department of Industries and Commerce, Mr Avinash Sikaria of the Sikaria Group, Kolkata who are the promoters of the Mega Food Park in Tripura. The event was well attended by over 100 participants from different parts of the State. Mr Sundeep Kumar, Executive Director, Dalmia Bharat Cement also attended the Meet from Gurgaon. Dalmia Group is planning to set up a pineapple processing unit in the North East and is scouting for location. Mr Avinash Sikaria of the Sikaria Group called on all the farmers to sign an agreement with them for the Mega Food Park in Tripura. In his appeal to the farmers he said that they are ready to buy of the pineapples in Tripura for successful operation of the Mega Food Park and are willing to sign an agreement with the farmers co-operative society.
